The age-old herbal cannabis formulations have been viewed skeptically, for the presence of THC in it. Similar to THC, CBD is a cannabinoid in cannabis plants that is the center of attraction in the therapeutic world. Could CBD lead to a failed drug test? You might have heard the news about the disqualification of athletes because they failed in drug tests. So how do these drug tests work and what do they screen for? Let us find out.

Can CBD Show Up In A Drug Test

If you are talking about the single compound CBD and not about a CBD product in general, know that CBD does not show up in a drug test. It is the presence of THC that drug tests screen for. The presence of CBD even in the highest percentages cannot lead to a positive drug test.

Can The Consumption Of A CBD Product Lead To A Drug Test Failure?

To be regarded as legal, CBD products sold in the US should not have more than 0.3% THC in them. To stick to the legal guidelines, CBD products are extracted from the hemp plant. The question you would have in mind now would be “Is there any way of taking CBD without ending up in a drug test failure”? The answer is “Yes”. Whether or not your CBD product contains THC depends on the spectrum option it belongs to.

Spectrum Options In CBD

There are three spectrum options in CBD – full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and CBD isolate. Two among them, broad-spectrum and CBD isolate do not cause a drug test failure.

Full Spectrum CBD

Full-spectrum CBD contains all major phytochemicals in hemp, including cannabinoids, CBD, THC, CBN, and CBG, etc. alongside terpenes and flavinoids. The THC content in full-spectrum CBD is less than 0.3% but it can result in a drug test failure. Thus people who have to take regular drug tests better choose THC free CBD options – broad spectrum and isolate CBD.

Broad Spectrum CBD

Broad-spectrum CBD contains all compounds present in full-spectrum CBD except THC. The compound that decides the result of a drug test is THC, and its absence makes broad-spectrum CBD an ideal option.

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is manufactured for people who want the benefits of CBD alone. CBD isolate contains about 99% CBD and comes in the form of crystals or powder. Just like broad-spectrum CBD, isolate CBD is an excellent option that avoids the chances of failing in a drug test.
